The Goal: Durable, Washable Walls That Meet Biosecurity Standards

At Brenwood Farms Ltd. in East-Zorra Tavistock, Ontario, Julie Wynette is part of a proud family tradition. As third-generation egg farmers, she and her husband work in a barn they built in 2017, while her parents, who’ve also farmed eggs for decades, recently replaced their original barn in 2024. “Food safety and hen health are our main priorities as egg farmers,” Julie says. “To protect both, we enforce strict biosecurity at all times.”

In a poultry barn, that’s not just a best practice. It’s a must. Biosecurity means keeping bacteria and disease out of the barn and away from the hens. That includes controlling who enters the space, what equipment comes in and out, and — just as important — what materials line the walls. Anything that’s hard to clean, holds moisture, or traps dust can put the flock at risk.

Julie and her family needed something tough, hygienic, and easy to maintain.

The Challenge: Traditional Materials Fall Short

When the Wynettes built their first barn in 2017, Julie looked at the materials most people use in agricultural buildings — and found that none of them would do the job.

Ribbed steel panels have grooves that collect dust and debris, and the exposed screws make them hard to clean. Plywood can swell, rot, or delaminate in wet or humid conditions. Drywall just isn’t built for the barn environment at all. Even FRP — which is often seen as the go-to sanitary wall solution — can peel at the seams and trap moisture behind the panels over time.

“Using a non-porous material in the egg packing, cooler, and livestock rooms makes our barn easier to clean and therefore supports our biosecurity priorities,” Julie says.

That’s when they started hearing about Trusscore — through industry word of mouth and other farmers who had already made the switch.

The panels are bright white, which reflects light and helps the space feel clean and well-lit — something that makes daily checks and deep cleans that much easier. And after eight years in place, the original panels still look and perform like new.

“It’s held up really well against moisture, dust, and daily wear,” Julie says. “The barn is much easier to keep clean and maintain with the Trusscore walls. Any dust that sticks is easily cleaned off and swept out with a leaf blower.”

Routine cleanings are faster, and annual deep cleans are more satisfying, too.

“I love how the dust blows off the walls so easily,” she adds. “Every time we do a deep clean, the barn looks shiny and new again.”

So when it came time to build a new barn for her parents in 2024, the decision was easy.
