The scholarship awards intend to address the skilled labor shortages and promote gender diversity in the trades
PALMERSTON, Ontario — Tuesday, May 09, 2023 — Trusscore, the material science company that is changing the way the world builds interior walls and ceilings, today announced it is sponsoring two scholarships at Conestoga College, based in Cambridge, Ont., worth a total of $2,500 per academic year.
The Trusscore-Conestoga partnership is designed to promote and support local skilled trades training and drive the creation of more opportunities in the trades.
“There’s a shortage of skilled tradespeople throughout North America,” said Trusscore CEO Dave Caputo. “There needs to be better gender parity in the trades, as well.”
“These awards not only allow us an opportunity to support our community and Conestoga’s mission of providing top-quality education, but we also believe they will generate interest in the trades as a rewarding career choice, regardless of gender.”
The first scholarship is the $1,500 Trusscore Way Women in Skilled Trades Leadership Award. It will be granted to a student in the Conestoga Women in Skilled Trades program who best demonstrates leadership traits aligning with Trusscore team values, known as “The Trusscore Way.”
The second scholarship is a $1,000 Trusscore Way Leadership Award, which will go to a student nominated by course instructors entering their second year of the Conestoga construction trades program and who shows exemplary leadership qualities.
Award recipients will be chosen jointly by Trusscore and Conestoga faculty, with the apprentices’ instructors, who know them best, nominating students for both awards.
“Conestoga College is grateful to Trusscore for their support of the skilled trades through the Trusscore Build a Career Award and the Trusscore Women in Skilled Trades Leadership Award,” said Suzanne Moyer, Dean, Trades and Apprenticeship. "These two awards demonstrate the commitment of Trusscore in helping to address the skilled trades shortage while also recognizing and rewarding leadership qualities of students who are pursuing a career in the trades.”
