Transforming an Indoor
Water Park with Trusscore

The Rundown

Fitzpatrick Interior Exterior Designs completed a large-scale renovation inside an indoor water park, installing Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard on walls up to 100 feet high and 200 feet long. The months-long project at extreme heights resulted in a bright, durable finish designed to withstand constant moisture and heavy cleaning.

The Goal: Replacing Water-Damaged Drywall with Moisture-Resistant Panels

Fitzpatrick Interior Exterior Designs was tasked with upgrading the interior walls of a large indoor water park in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Over time, the existing drywall had deteriorated due to constant exposure to humidity and moisture.

“This project was very unique, and it was new for us. In the water park, they were changing out all the drywall and replacing it all with Trusscore panels for obvious reasons,” says Ryan Fitzpatrick, CEO of Fitzpatrick Interior Exterior Designs.

Specified by the architect handling the project, Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard provided the ideal solution. The interlocking PVC panels are waterproof, mildew-resistant, and easy to clean — critical factors for a facility that experiences extreme humidity levels every day.

“Trusscore was a perfect fit for the water park. Installing it was a huge factor but also the application. The humidity and moisture in the building and the cleaning that takes place are the primary reasons they installed Trusscore in there. It's waterproof, it's easy to clean. You don't have to worry about mold growing on it. When the water park was originally built, there really wasn't any wall material at that time that was suitable. They just had drywall.”

The project scope was substantial, covering three walls measuring up to 80 feet by 200 feet.

The Challenge: Completing a Complex, High-Altitude Installation

This project presented a set of challenges that went beyond material selection. The sheer size of the walls required maneuvering large lifts and scaffolding, and the entire installation process took place exclusively overnight to avoid interfering with the water park’s operations.

“I have to say when we first got into the water park, in the initial walkthrough, I think we underestimated the job and how long it was going to take. There were a lot of changes being made, there were delays, and it was all night work.”

Working at extreme heights added another layer of complexity.

“We had to work off of 80-foot booms, 135-foot booms, and some other aerial electric equipment as well. On the North wall, which was quite large, we had roughly 100 feet from ground to top and probably another 80 feet long in scaffolding.”

Adding to the difficulty, the scaffolding was shrink-wrapped, making it difficult to transport materials into position.

“The scaffold had a shrink wrap on it, so you can imagine getting anything into the scaffold and up would be a challenge, especially if it was going to be drywall.”

The Result: Lightweight, Easy-to-Install Panels Deliver Exceptional Results

Despite the project’s complexity, Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard made installation significantly easier than traditional materials would have.

“Thank goodness it was Trusscore. If it was any other product that was maybe a little bit heavier or wider or, you know, like sheets, we would have been there well past eight months. Getting the Trusscore panels inside the scaffold was easy.”

The lightweight design of Trusscore also minimized installer fatigue, making the overnight shifts more manageable.

“One of the key factors for us that made it easier is that Trusscore panels are so light. Your first hour in there, you're kind of motivated. You've got your wits about you. But as the night goes on, you start to wear out. Having the product be so light really made it helpful for us because we didn't have to exert ourselves too much getting the product up there. We could pre-cut the panels on the ground, put them on the lift, bring them up, and install them. There's some flex to the panels as well, so when we had to go in behind the beams and in some tricky areas, we could give them a little bit of flex to maneuver them into place. And so that was really helpful.”

Beyond its performance benefits, the finished product looks great with no additional work required.

“If you're comparing to any other types of material that are on the market, there's more legwork that goes into making those products look nice. With Trusscore, I can just install it and I don't need to do anything else after it's done. It's complete.”

After eight months of night shifts and demanding installations, the team was proud of their work.

“The end result was phenomenal. It was a job that we were really, really proud of. I think this is one of the few jobs that I've done in my career that I've looked back on and was like, ‘I did that.’”
