Fresh off installing Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard and Trusscore SlatWall at the island resort he and his wife, designer Sarah Baeumler, are currently renovating on the hit HGTV Canada show Island of Bryan, professional contractor Bryan Baeumler lays out his six pro tips for an easy, and great-looking Trusscore PVC wall panel installation.

Need an assist from an expert on your Trusscore installation? Reality TV host and professional contractor Bryan Baeumler has your back.

Baeumler, who stars in the hit HGTV Canada show Island of Bryan with his designer wife Sarah, recently took some time out from his busy schedule to co-produce a video showing how to install Trusscore PVC wall and ceiling products — and the easiest route for the best results.

During the video, Baeumler identified six pro tips for achieving a great-looking installation, tips that are sure to make your project look amazing:

  • Allow the product to acclimatize for 24 hours prior to use

    1. Allow the product to acclimatize for 24 hours prior to use

Allow the product to acclimatize for 24 hours prior to use

A 24-hour waiting period allows the PVC panels to adjust to the humidity and temperature of the environment where they will be installed. Swelling and contraction based on the current conditions in your environment are normal.

  • Install ceiling panels perpendicular to the ceiling joists

    2. Install ceiling panels perpendicular to the ceiling joists

This makes sure that the PVC panels are properly supported, and that material is available for screws to bite.  We also recommend installing ceiling trim and panels first before the walls — this will ensure that all components fit properly and look smart.

  • Use tinsnips on trim for a clean cut

    3. Use tinsnips on trim for a clean cut

Making use of the right tool for the job ensures a finish that looks professional. Tinsnips are perfect for small cuts, particularly with trims. Other tools may not produce as clean a cut.

  • Use a miter saw or circular saw with a fine-tooth blade in the reverse direction

    4. Use a miter saw or circular saw with a fine-tooth blade in the reverse direction

Use a miter saw or circular saw with a fine-tooth blade in the reverse direction

Using a blade installed in reverse produces the cleanest cut for the best fit and look. Remember to remove the blade after your installation and ensure it is turning in the direction appropriate for your next job.

  • Don’t overtighten screws when installing panels

    5. Don’t overtighten screws when installing panels

Don’t overtighten screws when installing panels

Leaving screws loose allows the panels to move and shift when the temperatures changes and the product expands and contracts. This is normal and ensures that the panels always look smart and fit snugly no matter the environment.

  • Cut each panel ¼” short to create a gap that allows for expansion

    6. Cut each panel ¼” short to create a gap that allows for expansion and contraction caused by temperature fluctuations

Cut each panel ¼” short to create a gap that allows for expansion

Similar to tip number one, cutting panels short allows for temperature changes in your environment. The J Trim at the bottom and top of the panels makes certain they cover the entire wall and the finish is complete, no matter the temperature.

There you have it — tips from a pro.

Bryan and Sarah Baeumler and their crew recently installed Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard and Trusscore SlatWall at the resort they’re renovating on the Caribbean Island of South Andros, part of the Bahamas chain.

The resort renovation is the basis for HGTV Canada’s Island of Bryan. It follows the trials and tribulations of the Baeumler family as they restore the Caerula Mar Club to its former glory — and beyond.

The Trusscore PVC panel installation took place in Episode 5 of Season 3, and was the first time the Baeumlers as Trusscore ambassadors used Trusscore products at the resort.

Watch as Bryan and his crew put into practice all the pro tips they provide above.
