About Rock Solid Landscapes

Rock Solid Landscapes was founded in 2005 by John Pedlar, a landscape construction contractor, and now employs a team of 15 individuals. While it’s based in Eugenia, Ontario, the company extends its landscaping construction and garden maintenance services to residential properties throughout Georgian Bay and Beaver Valley.

The Goal: To Upgrade from Makeshift Workspaces to a Premium Workshop

For years, Rock Solid made do with makeshift workspaces, where they made the most of limited resources. Its first 10 years in business saw Rock Solid using a small workshop on a 50-acre farm in Beaver Valley. In 2015, the company purchased seven acres of commercial property on the edge of Eugenia.

“We bought this property in 2015 and we shared it with a log home builder. When we moved here, I didn’t have a building. There was a small building at the back that [the log home builder] used and we worked out of a 40-foot SeaCan. He retired in 2021 and we decided to build a shop in 2022,” explains John. “I wanted to put my roots down here, make an impact in the community, and clean the place up. Neil Watson from Watson Designs designed the workshop and office, and we started the planning process with him.”

John’s plan included creating a polished office and workshop for customers to visit when planning their very own projects. The products and finishes of the space needed to reflect the high-end landscaping work his business offers.

The Challenge: Finding Quality Products that Look as Good as They Perform

Brad Crawford of BC Builders was tasked with the challenge of bringing Rock Solid's vision to life, and he suggested using what he knew best — corrugated steel panels.

“Brad has installed tons of steel in shops,” says John. “But we're in changing times and I wanted to be current and go with the modern way.”

Staying current led John to Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard — interlocking PVC panels that are lightweight, long-lasting, and low maintenance.

Available in up to 20-foot lengths, Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard is perfectly suited for oversized structures and high traffic workspaces. The pre-finished panels are rigid — unlike thin, rolled metal sheets — can be easily handled by one person, and can be easily cut to size if needed. Like steel panels, Trusscore can be installed directly to studs using just screws, but your fasteners will be hidden by the panels’ tongue and groove interlocking system.

Reflecting on the installation process, John recalls, "It was maybe 6 or 7 months to construct the whole building, office and everything. The Trusscore went up pretty quickly. Brad had never installed it before, so it was the first time for him. Once he got the system down, it went quickly.

"The results speak volumes.”

The Result: A Bright and Clean Space that Earns Compliments from Everybody

“I toured a few other shops that had white steel up, and I thought it was bright and light, but Trusscore is actually much brighter.”

It’s no surprise — Trusscore Wall&CeilingBoard panels have a light reflectivity value of 0.90, meaning they reflect 90% of the light that hits them, maximizing all available natural and fixture lighting.

“Everybody comes in and compliments how bright and open it is, it’s great,” John enthuses. “You don’t get the ribbing like you do on steel panels, so you don’t get any shadows. I also like how there’s no fasteners. With steel, you’re going to have screws and you’re going to have screw heads. With Trusscore, you don’t see any of it. It’s much cleaner and more streamlined.”

Plus, Trusscore panels stay clean with low to no effort.

“Steel panels get dirty really quick. [Since Trusscore was installed], we've had the saws going in here —miter saws and table saws — creating lots of dust and stuff. I haven't wiped up the panels once, and they stay clean.”

For Rock Solid Landscapes, Trusscore isn't just a material — it's a game-changer, enabling them to continue sculpting landscapes and redefining possibilities, one project at a time.
